Yao Shilei, October 8, 1648 - February 21, 1708, courtesy name Suizhong, alias Huazeng, was born in Tongcheng, Anqing Prefecture, Jiangnan (now part of Anhui Province). A painter, writer, scholar, and official in the early Qing Dynasty. The great-grandson of Yao Zhiqi, the grandson of Yao Sunsen, the second son of Yao Wenjiu, the cousin of Zhang Tingyu, the thirteenth generation of the Yao family in Maxi, Tongcheng. I grant the title of Doctor Fengzhi to Doctor Zhongxian. In the 27th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1688), he became a Jinshi, taught poetry and prose editing, supplemented the inner court, was promoted to Zuo Zanshan in Chunfang, and participated in the provincial examinations of Huguang and Beizhi. His works include "Zhanyuncao", "Nanguicao", "Yuzhai Poetry Collection", "Yongyuan Collected Works", etc.
