For instance, if someone succeeds in a task or achieves a positive outcome, they might attribute it to their skills, efforts, or personal traits. However, if they fail or encounter a negative outcome, they might attribute it to external factors such as bad luck, the actions of others, or situational constraints rather than accepting personal responsibility. This bias helps protect self-esteem and maintains a positive self-image by preserving one's belief in their abilities and virtues while avoiding feelings of inadequacy or failure. However, it can also lead to a lack of accountability and hinder personal growth or learning from mistakes.
