(1/5) Alright, I said I was going to write an analysis of Boomer, and actually, I have had a rather difficult time typing him in terms of enneagram... His Jungian analysis, however, seems to be relatively straightforward. Though Boomer appears to be more interested in experiencing life than evaluating it (i.e. he is perception-dominant rather than judging-dominant), his primary judging function is deeply reminiscent of a certain facet of Jung's introverted feeling (IF) type. I would even say that he and Bubbles represent two discrete parts of Jung's IF type description: "*[Introverted feeling types] are mostly silent, inaccessible, and hard to understand; often they hide behind a childish or banal mask, and their temperament is inclined to melancholy.* They neither shine nor reveal themselves. As they are mainly guided by their subjective feelings, their true motives generally remain hidden. ***Their outward demeanor is harmonious and inconspicuous, giving an impression of pleasing repose, or of sympathetic response, with no desire to affect others, to impress, influence, or change them in any way.*** **If this outward aspect is more pronounced, it arouses a suspicion of indifference and coldness, which may actually turn into a disregard for the comfort and well-being of others. One is distinctly aware then of the movement of feeling away from the object. With the normal type, however, this happens only when the influence of the object is too strong. The feeling of harmony, therefore, lasts only so long as the object goes its own moderate way and makes no attempt to cross the other's path.** There is little effort to respond to the real emotions of the other person, which tend to be damped and rebuffed, or to put it more aptly, are 'cooled off' by a negative value judgment. *Although there is a constant readiness for a peaceful and harmonious co-existence*, **strangers are shown no touch of amiability, no gleam of responding warmth, but are met with apparent indifference or a repelling coldness. Often they are made to feel entirely superfluousness.**" *Applicable to Bubbles **Applicable to Boomer ***Applicable to both If you watch Boomer closely, you may notice that his emotions are actually rather disconnected from his immediate external circumstances. For example, there is a moment in The Boys are Back in Town where Boomer cheerfully stomps on Bubbles repeatedly. Although he is clearly eager to belong with his brothers, you can see that his emotional world is separate from Brick's in a way that, say, Butch's emotional world isn't. He acts independently--he tries to trash-talk the girls, not even caring how it lands, and has his own little self-satisfied moments. Even when he attacks citizens alone, as during Bubble Boy, he smiles at his own little successes, then immediately turns suspicious once he notices a threat (the PPG). In this way, you can see how even the parts of IF that apply to Bubbles also fit with Boomer's personality. Though he may be violent, he's still able to live within his own happy little world of candy, so long as this world isn't disrupted. Boomer's feeling is self-attuned. He doesn't care how others feel, and not just in a villainous way. His emotional experience is entirely his own.
