Throughout most of the book, the only time she is shown being rude or disparaging is in an effort to uplift people through tough love, or in berating herself for not being strong enough. An Arm And A Leg: Roisin has a degenerative disease in which she was warned that if she continued her on-field medic duties, it would cause her arm to bruise, rot and wither away. This eventually happens later in the book, with her losing one of her arms in the final battle. She gets an artificial replacement in the epilogue. Big Good: Easily the most selfless and righteous main character in the book, albeit very stubborn to the point of childishness, especially when it comes to doing her duties despite the fact that it is destroying her body. But even that could be said to add to her nobleness. Childhood Friend Romance: Dagim and Roisin both grew up in the same hometown of Incoba Nation, and remained friends throughout recruit school and their graduation to the Magnae Forces. They don’t express their feelings for each other until late into the book, but once they do, they stick together to the point where in the epilogue, she has twins with him. Meaningful Name: Roisin means little rose, which relates to her beauty, delicateness, and red hair, as well as her deteriorating health being representative of a wilting flower. Pollyanna: Is almost always in a positive mood, unless the topic of discussion is her condition and its effect on her ability to complete her medical duties for the soldiers. Team Mom: Is the designated caretaker of their generation of Magnae Forces recruits and is very proud of it. She ends up having twins with Dagim in the epilogue. Wide-Eyed Idealist: Almost to the point of extreme naivety. When even the proud warrior race guy that is Dagim Chibuike starts to lose hope, Roisin is the only person who is able to rekindle the fire within him and help him back onto his destined path as humanity’s barbarian saviour.
