Will probably be considered the "default" weapon in any setting where guns aren't commonplace (and in a few where they are). The heroic lead usually winds up wielding the iconic knightly sword in the west. The katana often takes its place in the east. Meanwhile, the big two-handed blades, if they're not in the hands of the hero, usually go to the big guy.
