I'm back to discuss his MBTI this time around since his companion quest provided us with good content in that regard. Current Typing (until further information) : ESTP NB : I haven't played the 1.2 main quest yet so I'll be going off his companion quest solely ┍━━━━☽【❖ Se-Ni axis 】☾━━━━┑ For a casual reminder, Se-Ni & Ne-Si in MBTI are [Perception] axis, and the more accurate ways to discern them thus isn't to look at how much a character interact with his environment, nor necessarily how hands on he is but rather [HOW] he perceives his environment. And in that regard, his companion quest provided us with all the data we could need, looking no further than the moment he laid out his suspicions on Jingliu. > Jingliu: Given the present circumstances, the Cloud Knight garrison probably isn't a safe destination, wouldn't you say? > Yanqing: Correct, so we're not going there. I'm taking you to The Shackling Prison. Safe, well-guarded, plenty of food, and a place to sleep. > Jingliu: ...Young man, if you wish to apprehend someone, shouldn't you have a reason? > Yanqing: ...Suspicious behavior and half-truths — those alone are reason enough. You think you can fool me just because I'm a child? > Yanqing: A sealed-off port with a stranded passenger? Unlikely. Not to mention you walking the whole way here without so much as a stumble — you can see as well as I can. > Yanqing: The biggest giveaway was you comment about my swordplay. Correctly guessing the number of swords from the sound alone? You'd have to be more than human. > Yanqing: You're not blind at all, are you? For a quick reminder, as the Objective Sensing function, Se is the most grounded perceiving function. It takes in the environment "as it is", "without filter", focusing on sensory information that is objectively observable. Sensory "facts" is another way to put it. Yanqing's perception of his environment is based exactly upon this. He notices and focuses on what is objectively going on in his environment : > "You walked the whole way here without so much as a stumble". > "You guessed correctly the number of my swords from sound alone". > "This kind of wound... is not the work of a Cloud Knight." However, what cements the Se-Ni (and more particularly ESxP) typing for me is the fact that there is NO attempt from him to delve deeper beyond the surface. Yanqing prefers to stick to objective and proven sensory fact, and shows no natural inclination to try and suppose why Jingliu might be here : may it be subjectively (what is her most plausible goal ?) or objectively (what could have brought her here ? /plural). He notices objective details from his environment that don't match up with her story, deems her a suspicious individual worthy of being interrogated further, and decides to take her to the Prison without wondering further himself. She's suspicious, but he doesn't try to guess the reason of her presence in any way. She's searching for Blade but hypothetizing on why doesn't seem to cross his mind. In other words, he's very perceptive but also takes his environment at face-value, which is a strong argument in favor of dom Se and inf Ni. ┍━━━━☽【❖ Ti-Fe axis 】☾━━━━┑ In addition to this, Yanqing's companion mission also seemed to point toward him using Ti-Fe axis rather than the other way around. From the get go, I wasn't able to truly glean any kind of personal values from him at any point during the quest. While the way he exposed Jingliu showcases a good use of Se-Ti in tandem. What happens during this companion mission seems to be that Yanqing notices objective sensory details in his environment. This information is then filtered through Ti, where Yanqing troubleshoots if said information is coherent with what he knows and if it is logically sound (according to personal criteria). > Jingliu was able to precisely count the number of swords he used => based of Yanqing's subjective logic, it is not possible to do so from sound alone => Jingliu must be lying about her blindness > Jingliu walked the whole way here without stumbling even once => this is not coherent considering that she supposedly doesn't know this port well > a stranded passenger in a sealed off port => Yanqing put these facts together and judges them personally as "Unlikely" 1/2
