Manny is described as a "gentle giant" who "has a brain as big as his brawn". He is conflict-averse and is not one to consider other intelligent students like himself as rivals. He loves to read and to solve puzzles, and is both a top student in Puzzle-ology class and high ranking on the school's Horror Roll. In spite of his inclusion on the Horror Roll though, Manny "never pass(es) up an opportunity for extra credit", which he finds thrilling while still making him incredibly nervous. As evidenced by his hesitation to dance with Twyla Boogeyman, confronting someone he has romantic feelings for and making the first move also makes him nervous. He sees no shame in someone having something to help themselves deal with nervousness, and thinks sharing one's vulnerabilities (including his own, as he wasn't ashamed to admit that he sweats when he gets nervous) is "the fiercest". He also believes it's perfectly fine for some monsters to not be scary. He is friendly and glad to help others, and even considers being thought of as a rival to be a kind of honor more than a problem, though would prefer friendship over rivalry. He is also cautious and easily frightened, sometimes to the point of fainting. He is known to visit the school library during late hours, and is usually the only one there at those times. He does not play sports, but still enjoys watching or reading about them. He likes cute things and wants to be a veterinarian when he grows up.
