背景
In Greek mythology, Eteocles is one of the two king brothers of Thebes. The meaning of his name is "truly glorious". He and his brother Polynices shared the throne, but after a quarrel, Eteocles gains the support of the Thebans and expels Polynices. In Aeschylus' tragedy Seven Against Thebes, Polynices gathers the support of the Argives and attacks Thebes. Although Eteocles's forces were victorious, both brothers end up dying.
