Tachyon is a social 5. She is typically considered a 7 due to her inquisitiveness, intellectual optimism, and smug behavior, though confidently typing her this fails to properly diagnose her true neurosis. What should be prominent to anyone who has played through her stories is that Tachyon is almost entirely intrinsically unadaptable — her first conflict is almost dropping out of Tracen Academy because she is both physically and mentally unexpendable. Anything that distracts her from her research is considered a burden, so she would rather give up on not just schooling, but also a place that helps foster her research, because these very basic tasks that she would have to go through with to preserve her space are ones that she considers too onerous. She would sooner willingly become a hermit than involve herself in just a few activities, which is telling about her priorities and flaws: her research is the confident and sole absolute, regardless of opportunities that can be elicited by others (see: Tracen Academy giving her a large pool of “guinea pigs”), and she is someone easily demotivated and prone to withdrawal when demanded of things by the world, showcasing both the strengths (feverish devotion to knowledge) and weaknesses (hypersensitivity to infringement) we see in the social 5. 7s capitalize on their advantageous readings of those around them, often slightly accommodating so that they are able to get what they want. This is a key facet of any 7 core, and something that cannot in good conscience be divorced from the type. Tachyon is so bizarrely avaricious that she cannot even do this. Instead, the focus on her personally abstracted “totem” of developing & surpassing the Uma Musume’s speed limits is primordial, a single-minded and obsessive focus that causes her to lose contact with the world until the trainer abruptly salvages this connection.
