i searched this page hoping that the community would agree that Kya is an Si dom, and was pleasantly surprised. in my opinion, Kya is the most beautiful depiction of an ISTJ in media. full disclosure: my entire comment is ridden with spoilers and draws from the book as well Kya’s story opens with explaining her troubled childhood, which contrasts her to her mom and siblings, who clearly don’t value Si as she does, because they all leave their little life. haunted by the strong Si memories of them abandoning her, Kya is determined to stay home in case they ever return. like other Si doms, traditions and living the way she did as a child is at the core of her being, and Kya never seems to even consider leaving the marsh after her father dies, Kya must figure out how to survive on her own. she does so by remembering what others did, how her brothers loved fishing and her mother grew a garden. Kya is extraordinarily disciplined in developing a routine of rising during the middle of the night to collect mollusks because it makes the most logical sense to her for survival (Si and Te). then she always drives out to sell the mollusks, feeds the birds, and is allowed to explore as long as she’s still working on growing her collection. which, btw, is the most adorable Si collection i’ve seen. Kya cherishes her little life, and even when she is imprisoned, all she can think about is returning to the marsh whenever Kya encounters another human, she is reminded of their Si history, and when other humans mess up, she holds an Si grudge against them for years and years. although nothing makes Kya happier than recalling her family, even when her beloved brother returns, she is hesitant to allow him back into her heart, because the memory of him abandoning her is still so vivid. she holds such a grudge against tate as well, and only is able to forgive him when she recalls how close they were even as children through a painting her mother had made. her knowledge of how chase’s abuse would carry out based on the memory of her father’s abuse patterns ends up proving fatal for chase… i could talk about Kya’s Si for ages because it’s prevalent throughout her story , but should probably cover her other functions a bit as well. Kya is a goddess at using her Te. whenever her feelings appear, Kya can pretty easily overrule them with what makes the most logical sense to her. she has a lot of moments where she realizes someone has abandoned her, and instead of indulging in the negative emotions, her immediate response is to figure out what she should do to continue to survive. her discipline and constant hard work is inspiring. she has a knack for learning and quickly learns how to read and how to operate and take care of the boat when given the opportunities Kya also has pretty decent Fi, which appears as hidden, messy, and childlike - third slot. whenever change comes into her life, it’s driven by her heart: a deep loneliness and a desire for a companion. like other Fi users, she has always felt excluded from society. she doesn’t exactly know how to interact with people well and misses a lot of social cues. she interacts with a child only to get scolded, and somehow misses that chase is cheating on her even after being warned by tate. she chooses to watch people she’s interested in from a safe distance until they make a move Kya develops a personal sense of morality, which ends up leading to the greatest personal decision she ever makes. like other Fi users, she has a deeper relationship with animals than with most humans. she develops her Fi values from watching the animals and how they interact with each other in nature, and inferring for herself what seems right in those interactions. especially from watching how female insects trap and kill male insects… well, you know where that goes. murder is not something society condones, but it’s something Kya didn’t believe was wrong because of the direction her Fi developed. her Fi is not a loud part of herself that anyone who meets her would understand, but it’s still there, hidden in the secrets of her heart Kya also has a tiny bit of Ne. it’s largely closed off due to her immense and practical Si and Te. but you can see it in how she loves exploring her marsh and discovering new hidden spots and new specimens. she finds joy in novelty, and loves when tate gifts her feathers she’s never seen before, or when chase brings her picnics with new foods to try. before Kya knew how to read, Kya would make up names for specimens she discovered. she’s open to tate’s ideas, like publishing a book, and she has dreams like having a house with chase in town over the course of learning her story, you fall in love with Kya, and her beautiful way of understanding the world and living. if you haven’t read the book yet, i would highly recommend that you do so. i am honored that she is the subject of my first comment on PDB, and thank you for reading it!
