背景
Ask and Embla (Askr ok Embla in old Norse) are, in the Nordic mythology, respectively the first man and the first woman created by the gods. The couple is attested both in the Edda Sæmundar, a thirteenth century compilation of various traditional primitive poems, and in the Edda of Snorri written by Snorri Sturluson from 1220. In these two sources, the three gods Hœnir, Lódur and Odin, find Ask and Embla and grant them different physical and spiritual gifts.
