the scene with dr. neuman was really creepy for me, because everything he said is true! fungi really pose a threat to humanity, and global warming is a very likely driver for the development of a fungal pandemic. but that's not all. people themselves actively contribute to their extinction from fungi by using antibiotics and destroying the competitoresses of fungi — bacteria, as well as transplanting organs to patientesses and putting them on immunosuppressants for life, which reduce the activity of the immune system, and therefore allow fungi to train to survive in high temperatures. all this could be just a horror story for children if science did not know that the capture of new niches by fungi in the form of warm-blooded animals is already happening. the lethality of the pseudogymnoascus destructans fungus ranges between 90% and 100%, and it has already destroyed almost 6 million bats. by the way, this fungus infects bats during hibernation, when their body temperature decreases. furthermore, as the climate gets warmer, bats migrate to places where otherwise they would not have got, and infect populations that are not adapted to this species of fungus. in addition, the destruction of habitual habitats due to global warming is stressful for animals, and as a result, the fungus has a stronger effect on a weakened population than it could affect a healthy one. okay, a deadly fungus is spreading among bats, but what about humans? if you think that the fungus has not yet reached people and you can breathe easy, then you are mistaken. in 2009, the candida auris fungus was discovered, the mortality rate from which is 30-60%. and most often it is people with weakened immunity who suffer from it. and yes, there is no vaccine for it, and it is resistant to all three classes of antimycotic drugs. in short, it's a complete nightmare. what can i say finally? have a nice day to you all!
背景
Doctor Neuman is a supporting character in HBO's The Last of Us. He was an epidemiologist who appeared on a talk show segment in 1968, alongside Murray and Dr. Schoenheiss. Neuman was highly educated and spoke quite bluntly about Cordyceps. He had a sense of humor, dryly responding to the talk show's hosts remarks to elicit laughter from the audience. He could appear relaxed, leaning back in his chair as opposed to sitting up straight as the host and Schoenheiss were. Despite this, he was also quite serious though, his blunt manner emphasizing the serious problem that Cordyceps would pose if it were to infect humans.
