The story follows a 14 year old orphaned girl named Angela taken in by a man and his sister in upstate New York. Angela accidentally killed her abusive father in self defense, so in a panic, she ran away. Angela meets a 33 year old assassin named Jasper, who happened to be in the area for a bounty. Feeling sympathetic, Jasper decided to help this little girl. He collects her father's body, rids of it, and takes her to his home a few hours away where he lives with his sister, Raven. From there on out, they form an unspoken family dynamic, Raven serving as Angela's mother figure and Jasper serving as her father figure. Angela, now being a missing person, changes many aspects of her identity. She dyes her hair, changes her style, and changes her name to Cookie, due to her light brown skin & plentiful moles making her look like a chocolate chip cookie.
