Clay MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Clay? Clay is an ESFJ personality type in MBTI, 9w8 - so/sp - 926 in Enneagram, SCUAN in Big 5, in Socionics.

I think he is 9 rather than 2. 2s want to deny their own needs and be selfless (or when unhealthy, appear selfless/convince themselves they are) to feel like they are a "bigger" person who is worthy of love, leading to pride. Clay is visibly insecure and really thinks he's inappropriate for a "big heroic destiny", he's the more lazy one of the dragonets, and his character arc is about how he'd rather live and let live but feels pressured to be a warrior in order to be a hero. He feels disconnected and dissociated from the other dragonets, numbing out to their dramas because it's too much effort to really spend time investigating, say, how to escape from the cave (like when he realizes that the entry boulder was locked with a key the whole time, and is embarrassed he never realized). His identifying with being a bigwings could fall into being social 9, which is about essentially merging with a group and being helpful and participatory in it. He is very concerned with helping others and being a protector, but the underlying motivations behind it fits more with a so/sp or sp/so 9 than 2. Also some aspects of sp 9, with how he loses himself in being obsessed with food so he doesn't have to think about all the serious issues the dragonets have to deal with and feels overwhelmed when they do have to deal with it. He tends to show an over-concreteness where he would rather just think about food and daily life in the cave than who he really is and what he is doing with his life, all of that feels overwhelming to him (all of this is a trait of 9). When you look at his character arc (which is crucial to figuring out Enneagram types), it is all about wanting to merge into a role as a warrior because it would make things easier, but being too lazy and loving peace, and finding a way to exert his gut/instinctual passion as a protector without betraying his values or doing something that he doesn't feel prepared for. All of those themes fit way more with 9 than 2. Edit: Reading Naranjo's stuff on sp9, and I'm definitely leaning towards him being this subtype, he doesn't identify so much with a larger group but just his family and seems more concerned with numbing himself through eating and relaxing than participation in a group, in fact he's quite lazy when it comes to participating in the "greater goal" of the prophecy. One thing Naranjo talks about his how the sp9 often has thoughts that they are an aggressive person deep inside, that they will hurt the ones they love, and thus should suppress their anger, which fits perfectly with how Clay was told by the guardians all his life that he tried to kill the other dragonets when he hatched, that there is a monster warrior inside him they just have to awaken, and his fear of being that monster. Not sure on his wing, he doesn't really seem to have traits of 8 or 1. But I guess I think he's even more not an organized, assertive moral reformer 1 than he's not a 8 (at least he has an aspect of wanting to be a protector and such), though really I'd be fine with either wing.
