[edit: i don’t actually think this anymore but thought i would leave it up anyway.] Hello it's me again *scratches head* This is super long please bear w me😭 I think Ti doms would have a different approach to baseball compared to Furuya. For starters, I think a Ti dom would have been more inclined to learn breaking balls on their own (vs being fed the idea of it by Miyuki and then literally forgetting about it😭). I don't think they would be so adamant or stubborn about using brute force and would be more creative ? I guess in figuring out a way to get batters out; like a more varied pitch sequence, for example. To keep going with fastballs and forcibly overpowering the opponent points to Fi-Se, in my opinion. He also never strikes me as someone particularly process-oriented, like Ti doms would be. He doesn't seem to have interest in understanding the process of things than he is in getting the result he wants. He wants to win. Especially again after his pitching battle with Hongou (and losing), Furuya talked a lot about how it doesn't matter how well he pitched, because they lost. Only the result matters. He was very fixated on the fact that they lost, rather than, i dunno, analyzing the game, figuring out what makes Hongou so different, or thinking of or developing new ways to get batters out in the future, like I think a Ti dom would be more interested in. But instead of studying the game and trying to find new ways to look at it and new ways to play, Furuya stubbornly still only continued to pitch the way he always did, repeating (and failing) over and over and over again. While Furuya has his own ideas for what the perfect ace to him is, and he knows he wants to be that for the team and was practicing repeatedly to get better, he wasn't doing so in a manner that was effective. He has a somewhat vague goal to be a strong ace and bring his team to Koshien but he doesn't know how. As he practices, it soon becomes obvious to everyone [except him...] that what he's doing isn't working out, and yet he still keeps at it. This lack of foresight and proper planning to me is an indication of tert Ni-inf Te. I also think Furuya isn't really that quick of a thinker to be a Ti dom. Ti doms are comfortable taking action as they think, improvising on the go. I don't think Furuya has ever shown any inclination to do this. I really sense a low thinking function in him. He needs instruction, needs to be prodded to do something - if his Fi-Se didn't make him do it already. He rarely disagrees with external logic except when it goes against his personal values. Right when he becomes a pitcher he says "I will do as Miyuki instructs me to do." which to me shows Inf Te. He also typically follows advice well, doing as he's told. I think Ti doms would tend to go against the grain more and not care for instructions as long as they get the job done too, feeling irritated when told they need to do things a certain way. Furuya does what he is told so long as it satisfies his own ideals and furthers his goals. He doesn't strike me as someone who really thinks so deeply about baseball (or of anything really.. no offense bae), though I'm not sure I'm wording this correctly. He doesn't really have novel ideas about the sport or a desire to understand it, in my opinion. I really think his focus is on what feels good to him. He wants to throw in the manner that leaves him the most satisfied. I also think he could be mistaken for having Inf Fe (ISTP) because Inf Te cares about external validation. Te users feel competent or "correct" when a lot of people agree with them, or when they are praised. They get their validation from external sources- like facts, or by comparing their results to that of other people. I do think Furuya cares about other people's (Eijun's, for example) skills and the rates of their growth. Personally, I think he feels a bit left-behind when Eijun continues to improve very quickly, probably thinking he was going to be the ace or if not ace just the one who seemed closer to it for a longer time. I also think he wants the team to think of him as someone who is competent and reliable. I think he feels some sense of inadequacy when he realizes he has been overtaken. This is just my interpretation though. We also see him kind of obsess over advice he is given ("Stamina roll" and other general advice during fielding practice) and then the visible satisfaction he feels when he succeeds and receives praise for it. Also Furuya saying "There's so much to learn. And everyone else is better than me." as his reasoning for not liking playing infield is classic Fi/Te imo. (1/2)
