Il Dottore MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Il Dottore? Il Dottore is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - so/sp - 538 in Enneagram, SCOEI in Big 5, ILE in Socionics.

“Why ENTP?” Dottore is being typed as a Ne dom because his main philosophy appears to be one fixated on entertaining multiple perspectives. Per verbatim: “A long time ago, I made a major decision in hopes of preserving all my perspectives (!) of how I observed (!) the world. Observation is the first step of any experiment, but observing the current world doesn't satisfy me.“ The primary focus that underpins his philosophy is placed on perspective and observation, as opposed to making sense of the world through deductive reasoning (Ti). The chief reasoning he provides for his motivation when it came to creation of segments is one of viewpoint (not of judgment) hinting that what leads his cognition is a perceiving function as opposed to the alternative. Dottore is undoubtedly fascinated by the inner mechanisms and logic of objects that exist in the external world to some extent (e.g. — the Dottore in the Webtoon being intrigued by Diluc’s delusion, how he reacts in the Webtoon when he spots out a vision, his reaction to Nahida’s impressive scope of mental ability during the confrontation with the traveler, etc…) but what lies underneath that fascination is a far more concerning callous disregard for those objects once they have stopped being deemed as something intriguing in his eyes. Dottore claims that he’s made something great out of Krupp and goes off on an entire monologue (“you started off as a despicable minion…but I’ve freed you from your emotions and greed, then molded you into a masterpiece…you are now strong, beautiful, perfect…”) and yet he abandons him with little thought right after. In Childe’s character quest (and notably the first time that Dottore was acknowledged in-game explicitly) Childe explains that “as to why the Ruin Guards have been moving outside of this area recently…I can only imagine that he's (Dottore) gotten bored of playing around them and has lost interest in this place.” Ruin guards are incredibly dangerous and are generally hazards and yet Dottore does little to tend to the Si practicality of one of his labs being responsible for their release out into the world. All of this is immensely reminiscent of Jung’s description on how the Ne doms functions in Psychological Types: “he seizes hold of new objects and new ways with eager intensity, sometimes with extraordinary enthusiasm, only to abandon them cold-bloodedly, without regard and apparently without remembrance, as soon as their range becomes clearly defined and a promise of any considerable future development no longer clings to them.” The axis of Ti-Si that governs the cognitive stack of an INTP is far more inclined to stick around with an object (in an attempt to fully and richly gain an understanding of it), which Dottore does not demonstrate in canon for most things. If anything, Dottore’s attention is incredibly fleeting to have and flits from object to object. The characterization we have of him so far in canon depicts him as being rarely content with his findings and prone to following his whims. If you read any of the notes theorized to be penned by Zandik (Dottore), you’ll find that he frequently flits from the subject he’s currently studying to different potential possibilities in a matter of seconds. Kusanali states that what she can make of Dottore is that he essentially lacks the sense of urgency that the sages have shown, and that he’s more interested in experimentation (and derives more enjoyment from it). Which Dottore himself confirms. “I'm first and foremost a scholar. These results should be left to the judgement of the hypothetical me confronted with that outcome” is a mark of Ne. Dottore hadn’t settled on a singular outcome (as Ni and Si are disposed towards) but rather was taking a more open-ended approach to the entire situation when two gnoses were involved. Nahida was utterly baffled that Dottore treated the possibility of creating a full-fledged god as just something he would have to presumably deal in the future rather than have a more specified plan for that outcome (as Ti-Si would be more predisposed towards to). To quote Kusanali directly: “Y—you really are crazy...if the experiment succeeded, you would have had a new god on your hands. How would you have faced your own god then?” Dottore not lending aid to Scaramouche during such a decisive battle so he could merely observe the proceedings is the embodiment of Ne. Dottore’s statement of “I respect all possibilities. This has always been my principle…” can serve as a paragon of how the function of Ne can manifest in an individual. Dottore’s approach of not interfering in the situation and respecting the external outcome out of many possibilities is a great illustration of the open-ended and flexible nature of Ne.
