What personality type is Toriel Dreemurr? Toriel Dreemurr is an ISFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w1 - sp/so - 216 in Enneagram, RCOAN in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.
Her deeper motivations don’t appear to be that of a 2, being a sense of wanting to please others to be get needs met because they don’t feel worthy of themselves on an inherent level; in fact, she seldom expresses this sentiment at all throughout undertale. If she was primarily focused on pleasing others, then we’d expect her interactions with Asgore at the end of the game (pacifist route) to have gone differently; she does not care one bit about offending him, calling him a “pathetic whelp”. It seems that the only real 2-traits she has is her being caring towards Frisk, who is a child, which is significant because many enneagram types like children and are caring towards them. Furthermore, Toriel doesn’t seem to mind isolating herself from the rest of the monsters too much, isolation being something that twos would generally avoid because it conflicts with their goals. So then why is she a 6? Well, quite simply, she seems to be driven by fear. She prevents Frisk from leaving not because she didn’t want to be alone or because she had a sort of attachment for Frisk, but rather, because she was scared for what might happen to Frisk out in the rest of the underground. She was scared for Frisk, and so she was trying to protect her from danger. Furthermore, the instance quoted previously where she calls Asgore a “pathetic whelp” and thus refused to accept friendship from him is evidence of ambivalence—a key part of the 6 trait structure where things are seen as only “good” or only “bad”. I’m definitely open to other thoughts but given the above, 6 seems most likely to me; or at the very least, more likely than 2. Thanks for reading!
