His greatest strength was his Fi -- he's relentlessly sympathetic to all his characters, even the villains (you could even argue that his works have no villains at all -- the reader sympathizes with even the parasitic universe-eating Palmer Eldritch). He puts characters that feel so deeply and so sincerely in the middle of these crazy stories and it's such a beautiful combination.
