"ما نوع الشخصية Jude St. Francis؟ Jude St. Francis هو نوع INFJ في mbti ، 6w5 - sp/so - في enneagram ، RLOAI في Big 5 ، IEI في Socionics."
jude is one of my favourite characters of all time, and imho, one of the most astonishingly clarifying depictions of an INFJ 6w5 in fiction. i think people have a tendency to see a broken character and immediately project with "INFP! INFP!" even when the basis is inaccurate, and here it is, because to me jude is so clearly an INFJ it doesn't even require an explanation. i cannot say enough how much i loved him. as a character, a person…how much of myself i saw in him and the way he approached the world, the agonising lengths he went to to protect himself from further hurt but also to protect the world from what he saw himself as, this horrible ruined creature, even though that was so far from the truth. it was quite clear from the start, but to me what erased any doubt i may have had about jude being INFJ were the following facets of his personality (i'm mildly embarrassed by how rigidly i'm writing this but i'm still recovering from just finishing the book, please forgive me) : 1. the way he obsessively altered himself to be a certain version of himself in front of various people, largely by hiding what he deemed to be 'bad' or 'ugly' or straight up vile. i don't know if this is ever healthy, but jude may be the most unhealthy example possible of this trait; he believed he was disgusting and was doing it for the betterment of others (when in reality he was always beautiful, always lovely and kind despite never seeing it). 1.5. the amount of deliberation, planning, organisation, and agonising amount of thinking behind doing basic acts which regular people would not think twice about doing really struck me here. i think it's necessary to say that jude is beyond traumatised and that a lot of these facets are coping mechanisms designed for survival. but there are different ways to process trauma, and his belief that he had to hide because he was the cause of this horrifying suffering was something i think an INFJ in such a position would be inclined to do, largely based on ni. and jude has astonishing ni. 2. this one's a simple one, and it's that jude is always described as one of the best listeners. through willem's eyes we don't see jude's inner self-loathing. we see a kind, quiet man who listens, who notices and sees what others do not, who always knows exactly the right and most thoughtful thing to say. he leans in; he asks the right questions; he is introspective and sensitive and draws theories, has these strikingly observant insights all the time. 2.5. i see this mostly from the willem and harold perspective parts of the book. jude in their eyes is kind, he smiles, it occurs to him to do what it doesn't naturally occur to others to, he goes the extra mile constantly and works intensely to not make anyone elses' life hard. at the expense of himself, so obviously..not a very healthy example. but then he has been through unspeakable things and i do not blame him. selfless to a fault, i would say. selfless because he didn't seen his own self as deserving of anything. 3. jude's brilliance. his logical, yet intuitive and crazily insightful thinking. the way his mind is built to see countless possibilities, the way he maps and organises and plans out the future, the abstract introspective thoughts, the prison that his mind can become and locks himself into. ALSO FOR THE RECORD. he is a feeler. you can be xxFx and be logical! 4. basically alr said this but the infinite facets of his personality that he edits depending on what he thinks would be best for whoever he is interacting with. he never does it to be selfish, but always a sort of selfless act that links to self-hatred. which is heartbreaking because jude can't see how easy he is to love without the need to hide the broken parts. 5. that bit where in his head he asks harold, (paraphrasing) don't you know i know exactly what to say that would destroy you, right now? jude probably learned this as a survival tactic but he has a remarkable ability to understand people, and from this to see with a striking clarity exactly what to say that could obliterate them in an instant. (not that he ever does, because he is a good person. a hurt person, but a good one.) i didn't realise he was aware of this until this moment with harold, and even then he pushes it down, he doesn't say it out loud, the way he controls all the understandable, reasonable fury and violent rage he has every right to feel. there are probably more and i've written this terribly, but i just finished the book today and i'm still reeling from the weight of it. from how profoundly and deeply it affected me. beyond all of this, jude might be my favourite character of all time. because he is extraordinary. he is kind, and unimaginably strong, enduring, gentle and thoughtful, brilliant and brave, and so good despite every unspeakable thing that happened to him. and more than anything, jude is a character who deserved to be loved.
