Under Blockberry Creative, a subsidiary of Polaris Entertainment, they debuted on August 19, 2018, releasing a single and a member each month from October 2016 to 2018. The English group name 'LOONA' was inspired by the fact that if the initial consonants (ㅇㅇㅇㅅㄴ) of the Korean group name are rearranged in the order of 'ㄴㅇㅇㅇㅇ', it looks similar to the English group 'LOONA'.
