Under Blockberry Creative, a subsidiary of Polaris Entertainment, they debuted on August 19, 2018, releasing a single and a member each month from October 2016 to 2018. The English group name 'LOONA' was inspired by the fact that if the initial consonants (ใ ใ ใ ใ ใด) of the Korean group name are rearranged in the order of 'ใดใ ใ ใ ใ ', it looks similar to the English group 'LOONA'.
