Emmanuel Todd (born 16 May 1951) is a French historian, anthropologist, demographer, sociologist and political scientist at the National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED) in Paris. His research examines the different types of families worldwide and how there are matching beliefs, ideologies and political systems, and the historical events involving these things. Combining in his works technicality and controversial hypotheses, in an essay-like style, sometimes polemical, politically committed, Emmanuel Todd has had an atypical. In 1976, at age 25, he predicted the fall of the Soviet Union, based on indicators such as increasing infant mortality and suicide rates. His central hypothesis is the determining role of family systems in the constitution and evolution of large-scale collective phenomena and discourses such as political ideologies, electoral behavior, and religions.
