What personality type is Crooks? Crooks is an INTP personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - sp/sx - 584 in Enneagram, RCOEI in Big 5, ILI in Socionics.
Big 5: Extroversion: 0-25%. quite reserved and distant, overall doesn't mind too much his isolation from coworkers. Hates being bothered. Neuroticism: 25%. While somewhat self protective and submissive/timid when threatened by Curley's wife (a white woman), this was probably typical for any black person during that time period. He's occasionally a bit moody or irritated, complaining about his loneliness at times. Other than that, no indications of prolonged depression, anxiety, or anger. Conscientiousness: 25-50%. While he does maintain a daily medication regimen, the book describes his room as somewhat messy/scattered/lived in, and he overall seems more like someone to live life in an apathetic/nonchalant manner. Agreeableness: 25%. Definitely on the lower side. He holds a rather cynical and skeptical view of the other people on the ranch, as well as society as a whole. He knows that he is segregated from the white ranch workers but in turn looks down upon them as well, and even at times outwardly asserts his independence/assumes a slight position of control despite knowing that he occupies a lower position on the social ladder during that time period. (for instance, commanding people, e.g. Curley's wife, to leave his room) Sadistically taunts Lennie for fun over the possibility of George abandoning him forever. Openness: 75%. While he's uneducated like the other ranch workers, he's witty and decently mentally agile. He creatively leverages his subservient position in society (i.e. being Black) as a form of reverse psychology on Lennie while taunting him. He seems rather reflective/introspective and makes some thoughtful observations (e.g. that people tend to be too idealistic and inevitably fail with their lofty goals). He also likes to sit in his room and read books, indicating that he's fairly knowledgeable/well-read, at least compared to the other people on the ranch. Probably the only character in this book who scores on the higher side on Openness. Overall: [R]cue/I/
