It’s been a while since I watched the anime, but I can buy INTP. He is intensely curious about everything around him, but is not easily spurred to action by it (unlike, in contrast, Saki and Satoru). This applies to his response to his condition, the loss of his family, and his impending death. As much as he grieves his family, he responds to his situation with a detached, rational (if melancholic) curiosity at the circumstance. His quiet acceptance of his death being the better outcome for all suggests that it is ruled by rationality rather than guilt. When finally confronted by the girl he loves right before his death, he spends the few moments he has left sharing his thoughts on the circumstances rather than his feelings, leaving only seconds to touch on his love for her. His concern for others would arise out of a well-developed Fe, which also contributes to what may be more of the 9w1/5w6 personality rather than the 5w4.
