Catra MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Catra? Catra is an ESFP personality type in MBTI, 6w7 - sx/sp - 468 in Enneagram, SLUEN in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.

This argument will be focused on Catra’s enneagram. I don’t think sx6 is that bad of a take considering her relationship with authority but when thinking about the bigger picture of the type, it starts to seem off. The head triad is defined by the emotion of fear and more precisely the withdrawal to the mind as a way to avoid such fear. Their powerful absorption with inner ideas or objects tends to prevent them from taking clear, decisive action. More specifically E6, since it is the center of the head triad, is defined by this fear that notices dangers in all situations. This results in seeking security under a powerful leader, yet even after that they still will adventure past their secure spot, continuing to see danger. Catra during the series is characterized by her rash decision making and impulsiveness . For instance, in the first episode she went with Adora without thinking it through to the woods and did not even care to save enough fuel saying that “will be a problem for future Adora and Catra”. Even if she were a sexual 6, she would still recognize the risk of situations and then go against her fear but she does not even consider these situations risky to begin with. Moreover, she does not cope by moving inside her head, adopting certain belief systems and such, her issues mostly revolve around her relationships with people. The main issues of the heart triad surround emotion, the need for love and approval, as well as a perceived inability to be loved for who they are. Now, how is this not Catra? She always felt undeserving of others’ love which is why she felt so abandoned when Adora left. This is probably the result of never getting recognition during her childhood and always being second to Adora by authority figures, but I am going to further explain that later. Nevertheless, above all she needed to be loved and approved for who she truly was, though she felt like she never would, which is why she adopted an authoritarian and harsh personality after Adora left. To elaborate more, I am going to refer to the passion of envy as well as the ego-melancholy. Firstly, melancholy is the fixation that defines E4, and is explained by always longing for a better future and never being happy with the present, as well as feeling alienated by peers and continuously thinking about something missing that keeps one away from happiness. Catra: "Some people have a bad day. I've had a bad life. If I want something, it's taken from me. If I win a fight, I lose the war. Threats only work on someone who has something to lose. But me? I’ve already lost it all. And you can't be any good at this, because you just let yourself get distracted... So, what'll it be?" This is a clear example of Catra always feeling lacking and never having it “good enough” compared to others. Overall, she attempted to achieve things thinking they would bring her true satisfaction even though that was never the case: claiming Adora’s position, having more power than Shadow Weaver and more. Furthermore, it is important to point out that Catra did not stay in the Horde out of loyalty towards it as an organization nor an unconscious fear of punishment but as a grudge against Adora. Adora had everything she ever wished for yet she left it all behind, including Catra. Thus, Catra felt a resentment towards Adora for not appreciating what she wanted more than anything. Ironically, she also was not able to appreciate them through the series. Naranjo pointed out that a typical childhood of E4 is being in the presence of a sibling that is perceived as privileged/recognized. This is not to say that Adora and Catra are siblings but to point out how much this fits Catra’s childhood in a way that a peer’s recognition leads to the passion of envy. More specifically, envy is a passion where one compares themself to others and thinking that others have achieved what they want and hence being envious towards them. I see this clearly in Catra and how she saw Adora in the first seasons of the show, since, as already said, Catra always longed for something Adora had but she was never able to obtain: love, recognition along with true happiness at the present moment.
