Kuchisake-onna (口裂け女, "Slit Mouth Woman ") is a malevolent figure appearing in Japanese ghost stories, possibly dating back to the Edo period. While wearing a mask she would ask people if she's pretty. If you say "no", she kills you with scissors. If you say "yes", she would take the mask off and ask again. Woe betide those, who judges others by mere appearance.
