What personality type is Eddy Chen (TwoSetViolin)? Eddy Chen (TwoSetViolin) is an INTP personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - sx/sp - 549 in Enneagram, RCUAI in Big 5, LII in Socionics.
In my opinion he's a Ti dom not because he's a classical musician but you have to recognize that there's a reason why this stereotype exists: Ti users use a specific framework for thinking that involves the application of logic and reason for the sake of understanding a given situation, system, or problem and it attracts them to music especially one that is classical. Ti doms also rely on inner information and with a series of adjustments to get to the point that they want. Jung writes: “His ideas have their origin not in objective data, but in his subjective foundation.” You may know the notes and those are empirical but interpretation is a very important part of music (he then uses his Ne to explore different ideas) because without it it's robotic and soulless ; a piece is truly a basis that then you add your own something into it after you have mastered it. (to do this he also uses his tertiary function Si integrating past experiences and acquired knowledge) Ti doms are very well disciplined and are ambitious, although Eddy has a very goofy persona their whole "practice 40hr" meme exists for a reason,Eddy wants to work and practice to get to that level of mastery of the violin and he always encourages their viewers to do so too. Yes Ti doms value foundational logic but they also trust their own subjectivity and that reflects on music which is Eddy's whole career. We see his Ne often because he's in the phase in his life where your auxiliary function develops and we can observe how the two interact: It's usual for Ti Dom's and 5's to impose on themselves certain rules but due to their Ne and their 4 wing they end up sabotaging them like for example always arriving late. Ne as a secondary function often gives the gift of openmindfulness but also of doubtfulness making it difficult for some INTPs to find their niche, in their short film FANTASIA there is a reference to Eddy's difficulty and doubts about pursuing a musical career and a YouTube one also showing a universe where Eddy "hadn't followed his heart" and chose an office job. The last function that characterizes an into is the Fe. In many videos the duo has talked about how Eddy is actually very shy and awkward in real life and Eddy himself has talked about his lack of self esteem and shyness especially in his younger years, Fe doesn't mean a lack of feeling but a difficulty in expressing them which seems to be the case for irl eddy,he appears to be "outwardly warm, but inwardly cold". On my opinion he's also a 5w4 and not a 5w6 for the same reason he's. Ti dom, he's not that objective and the 4 wing lets him be more in touch with his emotions and expresses a deeper need for intimate connections with partners and close friends. (such as his platonic very deep bond with Brett) 5w4's are seekers of deeper meanings and can be very diligent when working on something they love (music in this case) and just by listening to Eddy's favorite piece (Claire de lune by Debussy) we can see this love for abstract and search for deeper and sensitive meanings. One of the core desires of a 5w4 is the pursuit of knowledge alongside someone they care deeply about which is truly their whole channels,,them growing together and bettering themselves musically while trying to influence younger generations into getting into classical music.
