He is forced to play Sultan's Game in The Sultan's stead as a punishment for speaking out against the cruel game, and will be executed if he fails to break Sultan Cards on time. The Protagonist is a man of conscience and honour, at least at the beginning, before Sultan's Game twists him into something else.
