Personality

What personality type is Captain Jack Harkness? Captain Jack Harkness is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 2w3 - sx/so - 278 in Enneagram, SCUAI in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.

7w6 on DW and social 8w7 on Torchwood... how about meet in the middle? sp-first 7w8. I thought long and hard about this and how we could explain this difference in-universe - ("Is he a mature 7 by Torchwood, or an immature 8 in DW S1?") - but ultimately I think sp 7w8 makes the most sense and encapsulates how he is in both shows, before and after all the maturing he did post-immortality. I see why people decided on 7w6 for DW!Jack, but he was working alone and independently prior to meeting the Doctor. He was comfortable like that. His networking (John in his Time Agent Days, then the Doctor(s) + Rose / later Martha, then Torchwood, not to mention all the relationships he's gotten wrapped up in) - these relationships aren't for security like a 6; it's heavily for the sake of adventure. After some maturing, he has a sense of responsibility, which 7s certainly can be capable of. I think by Torchwood he's kind of a 7 trying his hardest to be an 8, and succeeding a lot of the time by making firm leadership decisions - ones a 7w6 would certainly find overwhelming. I think it's also possible a 7's lust for life would very possibly get dialed back a little after a hundred and sixty years of living, too, which could explain why he doesn't feel as gluttonous (which, I've seen some people say that seems proof he's actually a core 2). I dunno. Social 8 does make sense, but I'm very keen on ensuring his Doctor Who personality isn't entirely incongruous, so it just seems more likely to me he's a grounded and mature 7 by Torchwood.

Biography

51st century native Jack is an omnisexual former Time Agent, turned time-travelling con-man, turned galactic hero when he met the Doctor — and, eventually, turned immortal. Madly fancies the Doctor, although it doesn't exactly stop him from also hitting on anything that moves. After being revived from death into an immortal fixed point in time, circumstances lead to him becoming the leader of Torchwood, and keeping a lid on the alien activity around Cardiff Bay.
