Personality

What personality type is Ulrich Nielsen? Ulrich Nielsen is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 8w7 - sx/sp - 863 in Enneagram, SLUEN in Big 5, SLE in Socionics.

“My only aim is to take many lives. The more the better I feel.” MBTI —> I forgot from where, but I read that Ulrich is a character representative of Dark’s creators’ cynicism with small town living and I think that makes a pretty good case for Ulrich’s own Se-Ni dilemma, his Se constantly digging for gratification (in addition to his primary Sexual instinct), but failing to look into his Ni to scrape up more meaningful purpose- more on that in a moment. —> A couple of interesting examples of his Ti-Fe coming to play I can think of is when teenage Katharina was about to “clobber” Regina as she was under the belief that it was her that reported a false rape and teenage Ulrich had a moment of “whoa, let’s take it easy” as he was a bit more cooler and rationally headed in the matter, but there also his adaptability to the 1953 environment, using Ti to rationally sort out the facts of what was going on, versus the XSFPs in town who were more immediately struck with disbelief. —> And then I think it’s by the time that we see an older Ulrich in the psychiatric institution in which he finally comes to terms with his Ni, recognizing the existentialism of inevitable death and finally realizing the consequences of his adultery when Katharina had found him in Season 3, sincerely apologizing for everything. ENNEAGRAM —> 8w7 makes sense, and I think Ulrich fits the title of 8w7 - the Maverick - quite well and not in a stereotypical sense, but rather being more driven to channel his anger into movement and authority. —> I think he was bordering 2 integration prior to Mikkel’s disappearance, an example being in the first episode in which he demonstrated the ESTP’s remarkable talent for calmness in the midst of chaos by separating the distraught Obendorfs from getting too aggressive with Charlotte and calming them down, also a pretty realistic demonstration of small town bonds between citizens. —> However, his severe fall into type 5 secrecy came out in his early years in the more depraved psychiatric institution of the 50s as he descended inward into his mind and kept silent around the staff and police. PERSONAL THOUGHTS —> I think it’s interesting the rivalry dynamic between Ulrich and Egon is something that is bound between them through different times, being tethered together by the Kreator lyrics referenced at the beginning of this post, showing Ulrich’s character and continually giving Egon more pre-conceived reasons to be suspicious. —> I know Ulrich is a depraved man, but his story arc is quite intriguing to watch through Season 1, doing well to represent the noir nature of Dark’s storyline, whether it be more honorable “redemption” in ending his affair with Hannah or being brought back down to depravity when attempting to kill young Helge, even if he thought such action would’ve brought out the greater good. —> And it’s so brutally tragic how his story ended up; maybe there was some form of untreated neuroticism that was always present in Ulrich from the beginning, but it’s scary to think that he wasn’t exactly “crazy” but because of how his words sounding like nonsense to 50’s law enforcement, it got him into the psychiatric asylum anyway and he was kind of forcibly brought down to such neuroticism as he faced the existentialism of his mind - it’s truly harrowing and ESPECIALLY so because he was stuck there for the remainder of his life with fleeting hope that Katharina would break him out. Good Lord. Thank you.
