Dean Winchester MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Dean Winchester? Dean Winchester is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 8w7 - sx/sp - 873 in Enneagram, SLUAN in Big 5, SLE in Socionics.

Updated Dean Winchester profile since I’ve learned A LOT since I last started a thread here. Okay, so most people worth their salt on this website have agreed he’s a Se dom so I won’t go into that too much. The main topic of debate is ESTP vs ESFP and I think I’ve finally settled on an answer. (I’ve tried to actually round up my thoughts but forgive me if this is a little all over the place. Ti usage - A lot of people have asked for examples of Deans Ti but, honestly, I think that’s a case of missing the forest for the trees. So much of Dean’s learning process in the show comes from not taking things at face value and not accepting anything as truth until he’s rationalised it against what he already knows. I’m using angels as an example becusse I’m currently rewatching season 4 but notice how Dean refuses to fully accept the concept of angels without eliminating all all other possibilities and without having numerous encounters with them? Ti user, clear as day. He takes time to process the concept of angels and work them into the knowledge he already has, and after that has no problem dealing with them and rolling with the punches. (EDIT: a Te user, especially a TeSi user would have pretty much instantly trusted Bobby here. Bobby says nothing else could have lifted Dean from the pit + Bobby has been a reliable source of information in the past = must be angels. Dean doesn't trust Bobby immediately and instead asks both him and Sam to research further, and even then doesn't internalise the idea of angels until having tangible proof of their existence.) You can also use baby as an example. When he gets overwhelmed or stressed he spends time with baby, whether driving or doing maintenance he’s falling back on things he’s sure of, things he knows he won’t fail in. He’s falling back on his Ti. Fe usage - A lot of examples of Dean’s Fe can really easily be confused with Fi which I think is where a lot of the ESFP arguments come from. His relationship with John and Sam is the most obvious to me - we see him act as the peacemaker many times but that doesn’t come from a place of self, because of how often he puts his own feelings to one side for the sake of resolving conflict. I can’t think of a single time in the earlier seasons that Dean puts himself first, that’s kinda one of this most important character development arcs - learning that he is valued not just for his skills, but for who he is inside too. Dean is one of the most selfless bastards alive and if you can’t see that I think you might be watching the wrong show. There’s some other, kinda miscellaneous points i wanted to bring up too; Firstly, in s4e17 we see Dean at probably his most genuine. His memories have been wiped, his trauma too, and once he gets out of the corporate 9-5 headspace (shudder) to deal with the ghost along with Sam, he becomes a perfect example of an ESTP in their comfort zone. To me that shows that a lot of the discrepancies in his typing might come from his trauma and the effects of all the things he’s been through - whether or not mental illness should be factored into MBTI is a difference debate entirely but I thought I would bring it up. Another misc point - I think the reason Dean seems to have a weirdly high Fi that only grows more throughout the show is because of Castiel. Dean learns by proxy how to value his Fi and overcome ESTP fi-blindness by watching his ISTJ friend do the same. So yeah, I think he’s ESTP. I think ESTJ voters are confused by his 8w7 and ESFP are confused by his weird-ass Fe usage (though those votes are way more understandable than the ESTJ ones my god) and I think I need a break from PDB after this much overanalysing of an emotionally stunted white boy. mic drop.
