What personality type is Himura Kenshin? Himura Kenshin is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 9w1 - sp/so - 926 in Enneagram, RCOAI in Big 5, EII in Socionics.
Initially, I thought he wasn't INFJ because I didn't see it initially but understanding the whole story of Rurouni Kenshin, it makes sense. The biggest argument here for INFPs is his Fi because of his code to not kill again but tbf he didn't start out that way and even that code is seen to be flexible as shown in the temple fight when that baby was in danger. If not for this code, his inferior Se will make him indulge in killing. Inferior Se is very difficult INFJs to get a grip of. So instead of typing him as an INFP, I suggest he could just be a very disciplined INFJ that's conscious of his inferior Se. Also during the anime, we see Kenshin time and time again seriously risk his life to help practical strangers. In his going off to war, his main argument to his master is that he wants to help people and the people dying cannot wait for him to complete his training. His wandering days were practically Kenshin helping people all over Japan as a way of finding his purpose in his post-Battousai days and even after the events of the anime, he does the same thing when he wanders all over Japan again and even goes off to Korea. He has a compelling urge to help people even at the expense of himself and tends to do things alone in order not to disturb others, which even Sanosuke and his master pointed out is selfish to those that care about him which even surprised Kenshin. Miss Kaoru is the only one that is willing to give Kenshin the same devotion that Kenshin has given others which is why she is special to him in a different way than everyone else. The constant martyr complex can easily get hold of INFJs because they can easily ignore themselves by helping others so they view helping others as helping themselves which is really not the same thing. Also, couple that with his overbearing self-criticism of his Battousai days, even though he was on the winning side and his former allies still praise him heavily, Kenshin may actually be a legitimate INFJ
Biography
Himura Kenshin is the main character of Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (also known as Samurai X). Previously, he was a cold-blooded swordsman known as Hitokiri Battōsai. He eventually decides to start a new peaceful life under a new identity as Kenshin.
