What personality type is Shuichi Saihara? Shuichi Saihara is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - sp/so - 694 in Enneagram, RLOAI in Big 5, ILI in Socionics.
Wow, this profile is a mess A lot of the arguments brought here were focusing on the wrong points. First, MBTI focus on cognitive aspects instead of behavior Behavior is just a consequence of the cognitive process which is where the analysis should focus to determine someone's MBTI. So everything that goes from "INTJs can't be that emotional!" or "INFJs can also be logic!" has no use in this discussion. Any type can fluctuate their behavior since behavior isn't inherent to the MBTI type. So it doesn't matter if Shuichi is sensitive, emotional, logical, or whatever since that doesn't change how he process and judges info. For his cognitive functions, i truly believe Te-Fi makes way more sense than Fe-Ti. Differing how both axis works, Te-Fi is dynamic on their logic and solid on their values while Fe-Ti is dynamic on their values and solid on their logic. For a better understanding of this, the extraverted judgment function (Te/Fe) will focus on objective criteria while the introverted rational functions (Ti/Fi) will focus on a subjective idea that comes from the inside. That way, considering Te/Fe's judgment ends up being borrowed from the outside it's dynamic and it will change depending on the situation and elements, while Fi/Ti will be influenced by concrete external elements but their reasoning always starts >in the inside< making it solid. The feeling functions deal with values and emotional questions in general which usually involves either the person (Shuichi in this case) or the group, while the thinking functions focus on developing logical reasoning of the situations. Now about Shuichi, first i'll talk about his feeling functions. Shuichi is in fact accommodating and agreeable but that alone doesn't mean anything, we need to look at his reasoning to do so and determine his cognitive process. This is done through his personal values (Fi, subjective idea parting from the inside) instead of adjusting himself to the external (Fe objective conditions regarding others). He is a nice person because that aligns with what he personally believes instead of being nice because people require him to, as we can see during most of the game in which Shuichi openly expresses his own beliefs. He has barely any focus on actually adjusting himself to others, an argument that was used here for Fe once about how he keeps thinking about keeping his promise to Kaede isn't Fe, he isn't "taking Kaede's values as his own" and neither using it as an objective condition, but instead taking in count how Kaede impacted him and his own feelings, making it a subjective meaning parting from inside while being influenced by external events. "I need to keep my promise to Kaede. I need to find the truth." It's about him keeping the promise, and not really about Kaede or what she wanted. What matters for him is how Kaede personally impacted him, what she means to him and not for the group, his own subjective idea of this promise which comes from the inside. He even has a hard time understanding Kaede's actions as a Fe user, for example: ➟ ❝Kaede...why? Why are you smiling like that...? Why are you still trying to get me to be brave? Why, Kaede!? Why are you thinking about everyone except yourself!? If you had just been less selfless, you wouldn't have had to murder... Why...? Why do you do that?❞ Kaede really had to dedicate herself to reach Shuichi, to give him a meaning, and it was only after she died that he really understood what she was trying to do. ➟ ❝Yeah...I'll try. I don't know if I can do it, but... No...I'll do it! I have to believe in myself... I won't be afraid anymore. I will face the truth...for everyone. I promise." and "My belief in you...is gonna lead me to the truth! I'll show you what's behind all this! I'll show you your truth!❞ And that proves whenever he remembers the promise he made for Kaede, it's taking in count how she changed him and what that means for him instead of any objective criteria on the group or the environment. It becomes solid and is used plenty of times. Saying he would do that for everyone isn't necessarily related to Fe, in this case it's his own internal motivation which comes from inside and not from others. "I want to do it for everyone and the promise i made to Kaede" instead of "The others want me to do it".
