What personality type is George Westinghouse? George Westinghouse is an ENTJ personality type in MBTI, 5w6 - so/sp - 538 in Enneagram, SCOEI in Big 5, LIE in Socionics.
This man is genuinely underrated. I don't understand why this man is largely forgotten while everyone glazes the fuck out of Tesla. How is he E5? Here are my arguments for LIE SP3: He often emphasized long-range vision over immediate results, which would be his Creative-Ni. He pursued natural gas, then electricity, steam turbines and then shock absorbers. Always restlessly chasing whatever field held the greatest long-term potential rather than perfecting one craft in the here and now. This pattern of leaping between industries toward bigger future payoffs is very LIE. He also had tendency to ignore his own physical needs and comfort in favor of work. He was very much a workaholic. His general disregard for luxury even as a wealthy man is very Vulnerable-Si. His stubbornness and explosive temper as a child and his ruthless pursuit of patents and competitors in the War of Currents as well as his single minded use of broad ideas to serve concrete goals rather than exploring them for their own sake match the Super-Id block of Mobilizing-Se and Demonstrative-Ne described for LIE. I don't know why he is voted E5 here. SP3 makes the most sense. He was famously humble and avoided the spotlight, hated to give speeches and even prohibited the use of his own photograph while he was alive. This is the opposite of the SO3's need to shine and be seen. He built his identity around being useful, reliable and hard working rather than around status symbols, and unlike Andrew Carnegie or other robber barons he spent little on personal luxury despite his wealth. This is the SP3 tendency to not indulge even when financially secure. His employees privately called him "the Old Man" with real affection rather than resentment, and his labor relations, five and a half day work week, disability benefits, and refusal to put his own name on his engineers' patents all point to someone whose vanity showed up as being genuinely good and dependable rather than as chasing applause.
Biography
George Westinghouse Jr. (October 6, 1846 – March 12, 1914) was an American entrepreneur and engineer based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who invented the railway air brake and was a pioneer of the electrical industry, gaining his first patent at the age of 19. Westinghouse saw the potential in alternating current as an electricity distribution system in the early 1880s and put all his resources into developing and marketing it, a move that put his business in direct competition with the Edison direct current system. In 1911 Westinghouse received the AIEE's Edison Medal "For meritorious achievement in connection with the development of the alternating current system."
