I understand the arguments for INTP: critical Ti and demon Si are all over the place, but Faust's emphasis on holistic understanding, his inner mental landscapes and yearning for the intangible seem to point towards Ni. In the end, his "streben" for a deeper truth leads him to exhaustion: a whole life devoted to science and yet still feeling as if he doesn't know anything. By living in the realm of abstraction (Ni) and knowledge (Te) he shuns the "world of appearances" (Se); only as life goes by he realises that he actually didn't "experience" anything in his seclusion and falls into a grip of self-destructive thirst for earthly pleasures.
