Jinguji Ren MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Jinguji Ren? Jinguji Ren is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - sx/sp - in Enneagram, SCUAI in Big 5, in Socionics.
Not much to say about Ren being an ENTP, I think it's very clear he's one. It's just that I don't think 3w2 sits right with him. 3 desires to feel valuable, and their basic fear is to be worthless, failing, and this description doesn't really fit. **Not spoiler free (Repeat + anime), read at your own risk** Ren's development is one of the most noticeable ones in the whole franchise. He starts out as a rebellious guy trying to be expelled from school because he didn't want to do what his brother planned for him. He learns to be more reasonable and careful as time goes on. He mellowed a lot. Would a 3 allow themselves to drag their reputation through mud like Ren did? I don't think so. 3 has a complex concept regarding their image: 3 tries to create an identity of their own through the eyes of others, giving themselves a feeling of being important while being accepted by society. A 3 would find being expelled an unforgivable thing to do. 3 would not be willing to sacrifice their image to get freedom like Ren was. Ren kind of goes against this whole concept: he doesn't feel like developing an identity and is also not too worried about his reputation, but... yes, he does turn out to be somewhat worried with reputation later on. It's just... not his priority. It's more like he developed it along the way, but it's not something he always had in him. If not a 3, what could he be then? 2, 7 and 8 are good possibilities, and I think he's a 2. 7 and 8 are very visible, but both fail to explain his early behaviours in the franchise: were Ren to be a 7, he would have a hard time giving up music (because he loves it) for the sake of being expelled (would he want to be expelled to begin with?); were Ren to be an 8, he wouldn't have been so passive about wanting to leave (he only skipped classes and hung out with girls) and would have tried to talk it out with his brother (he listened and went to Shining Gakuen anyway). 2, on the other hand, can better explain what happened: even if he didn't like the idea of being used as advertisement for the Jinguji group, he didn't say so. As their third son, Ren never had a clear role in the family, but he also didn't feel part of it. He went to Shining Gakuen against his will for the sake of fulfilling his role (partially: were Ren to go and be unable to become an idol, that would be fine, Seiichirou was to think of something else). He didn't think things through and couldn't tell his brother was giving him the freedom to pursue something he held dear. He's less in touch with himself than he seems to be. Ren also shows some possessiveness towards Haruka in Repeat: he wouldn't attend rehearsals with her, but he didn't want someone else to take his place as her partner. He felt the strong desire to be needed, to be wanted, and he overlooked Haruka because he never thought she would leave him. This is also why he went on dates: he didn't want to be alone, a fear which connects to his childhood, back in the days he related so much to his mother and couldn't have her by his side to guide him. Renge was his pillar, and yet he got no comfort from his family after her death. He was forced to forget her, because his father erased most traces of her existence, but Ren wanted to know more about her. He was denied that, and this can very well be what hurt him the most.
