Biography
The Flame (or "red") Emperor, translated literally as "Divine farmer". He is credited with teaching humans the use of the plow, aspects of basic agriculture, and the use of medicinal plants. Was said to have tried eating every kind of plant available to see which ones were beneficial and which were poisonous. In some versions of the myth, his quest ended when he accidentally ate a poisonous plant and died before he could drink his medicinal antidote of tea.
