Biography
Origen of Alexandria (c.184-c.253) was an early Christian scholar, ascetic, and theologian, who was renowned for his prolific writings on textual criticism, Biblical hermeneutics, and Christian apologetics. He is also renowned for synthesising Platonic philosophy within his intellectual framework. His view on the universal reconciliation of all things, known as apocatastasis, became considerably controversial, with such a view being anathematised by the institutional church at the Second Council of Constantinople in 553. He died in c. 253 after being severely wounded under the Christian persecution of the Roman Emperor Decius.
