Mr. Reed MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Mr. Reed? Mr. Reed is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 5w6 - SO5 - 514 in Enneagram, in Big 5, ILE in Socionics.
This man is so painfully ENTP. He such a clear-cut example of NeTi with aux Fe and stunted Si. This is what happens when an ENTP has been in some sort of pain for a long time and lashes out. I can see how some people think they see INTJ because INTJ is our shadow. If we are emotionally damaged, we can do things that look INTJ. But that's just our shadow type shining through. The self isolation, the manifestation of the inner world, the arrogance, the smug little tricks in the controlled environment. I bet he almost never leaves that house. He's created his own little world where he has deduced all the answers and is luring people into his controlled experiment to prove to HIMSELF over and over that he's drawn the right conclusions from the mountain of evidence. And he has no moral qualms about it. This is an ENTP that has lost his marbles. Hugh Grant did an interview where he disclosed some of the "elaborate backstory" he'd come up with for Mr. Reed, and I pasted that below - "I can tell you two things. One is that he had a great loss somewhere in his life. Someone died who was very special to him, and he, in his grief, looked for some comfort in religion and didn’t find it. That partly explains his encyclopedic knowledge of religion and his disdain for it. But, more broadly, he was just that kid who seemed nice, and actually quite charming in a way, and to whom people would be drawn for a bit. But suddenly, they think, ‘No, yuck, there’s something wrong here.’ He was not invited to parties and sleepovers. He’s sad about that, and has overcompensated throughout his life by trying to be ever more fascinating, and groovy, and different, and playing pranks on them. He’s superintelligent, to an almost sort of painful degree, hence his fascination with trying to organize everything. His plan for the two girls in this film has been written down. It’s an incredible labyrinthine program—‘If they do this, then we do that. If they do that, then we do this’—and it’s all part of the world he built, the house he’s actually physically built, the weird analog locks on the doors, all that." So much of this screams ENTP. Especially the part about seeming charming and nice, but as soon as people get below the surface, they see something they don't like. People like ENTPs until they get past our mask. And that mask was created because ENTPs have enough Fe to know that people find us strange, too intense, and a bit frightening when they get past the veneer. If you're and ENTP you know exactly what I'm talking about. It's why ENFPs get stereotyped as loveable and we don't. I suspect that Mr. Reed finally found a person who was not afraid of who he really was (probably an INFJ or INTJ) and she died, and he lost it and retreated from the world. Damaged ENTPs are dangerous because we are quite capable of putting on a good show even if we have nefarious intent.
