The historical Matthias is Te-dom, the fairytale, 'holy' Matthias is Fe-dom. I don’t understand why ‘great Hungarians’ would be hysterical when someone attacks the mystique woven about the ‘Champion of Truth and Goodness’. Knowing the surviving records of his habitus, he would not like to be a charming fairytale hero either. He was first a commander in spirit, secondly a leader. This is evidenced by the fact that he fought for many titles, the benefits of which he did not later reap in sufficient depth. A holy, warm-hearted saint could not have constructed such results. A strategy-oriented, hard-handed, headstrong individual is all the more so! He had rational goals and rational outcomes. He had ambitious plans that he carried through fire and water, no matter how many people he angered at himself. And I don't think it's a problem in itself that he keep in mind what's needed for his strategy, not the traditions and the relationships. The problem is that they want to mystify him differently afterwards than he was. It’s pretty clear that he wasn’t interested in people. He did not view his people as ‘the beloved flock of which he is the shepherd’, but as a simple tool. The people were financial and human resources. And as a ‘mandatory bad thing’ that needs to be addressed to a reasonable extent. He was not interested in the welfare and stability of the crowd, his taxes and all his other measures were for the purpose of accomplishing his military aspirations. Did the people benefit from it in terms of peace and stability? Yes. Compared to later ones, were these people valued more, despite living in poverty during his reign? Yes. But he didn't do it for them.

Biography

Matthias Corvinus (Hungarian: Hunyadi Mátyás; Romanian: Matia/Matei Corvin; Croatian: Matija/Matijaš Korvin; Slovak: Matej Korvín; Czech: Matyáš Korvín; 23 February 1443 – 6 April 1490) was King of Hungary and Croatia from 1458 to 1490, as Matthias I. After conducting several military campaigns, he was elected King of Bohemia in 1469 and adopted the title Duke of Austria in 1487. He was the son of John Hunyadi, Regent of Hungary, who died in 1456. In 1457, Matthias was imprisoned along with his older brother, Ladislaus Hunyadi, on the orders of King Ladislaus the Posthumous. Ladislaus Hunyadi was executed, causing a rebellion that forced King Ladislaus to flee Hungary. After the King died unexpectedly, Matthias's uncle Michael Szilágyi persuaded the Estates to unanimously proclaim the 14-year-old Matthias as king on 24 January 1458. He began his rule under his uncle's guardianship, but he took effective control of government within two weeks.
