Biography
The cinematographer is the primary visual collaborator of a film's director. They're equipped with a practical understanding of how to use the facts of lights; their intensity, color, K-vakue, distance, directness, angle(s), size, ratios, scattering, spread and other factors to modulate the mood of an audience in a dynamic fashion. Together with a precise control of movement [direction(s), speed, rhythm] of the camera [rotation, translation], they use the calculated displacement of the field of view to concisely communicate the film's ideas. The DP chooses their lenses (f, aperture, type, d, etc) and film/sensor formats to subtly dictate the audience's perception. In-camera, the DP controls the exposure, shutter angle, chromatic aspects and composition. The efficient cinematographer works closely with the colorist, compositing artists, vfx supervisor, makeup artists, location managers, costumers and production designers to ensure complete visual cohesion of the final product.
