What personality type is Opal? Opal is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 1w9 - sx/sp - 147 in Enneagram, SCOAI in Big 5, in Socionics.
As with other gym leaders, Opal is given very little time or dialogue to fully explore her character, so many things must be extrapolated. Opal is clearly a 1w9, with a strong sense of what she believes to be correct or incorrect. Her Te-Fi axis is immediately evident due to this as well as her bluntness and the efficiency to which she looks for her successor. She has a very introverted mindset, being very fixated on her own world and a sense of duty to finding the next gym leader. It would be easy to say she is an ISTJ, but I believe that reading between the lines reveals something different. She is very fixated on pink, not as an actual color but as its abstraction-- bluntness, flamboyance, pride. She outright states during the gym battle that pink is not actually her favorite color, but rather purple. She likes pink on others, or rather, appreciates others being blunt and outspoken. I would argue that the premise of her gym-- a stage where she observes the actions of others and extrapolates complex personality traits and dispositions based on their minute sensory movement and actions-- suggests she is an Ni-Se user. As the back of her league card states, she is able to ascertain the colors of personality that people have. She uses that Ni to find her successor and successfully does in Bede, an ENTJ who possesses "pink," both in the literal sense of his pokemon and outfit, but more importantly, his brash and open disposition. This as opposed to our ISFP protagonist. From here, we can put together her stack: Ni-Te-Fi-Se. INTJ.
