Lowkey I really thought she was an ENFP for a long time. Honestly, realizing that she’s an Se dom made me confront the fact that I have a fair amount of intuitive bias. She writes songs about things that aren’t usually in pop songs, but she brings some of the more out there topics down to earth in her writing pretty beautifully. I also cannot imagine an ENFP writing some of the songs off her new album. Paradisin’ (one of my favorites off of Sawayama) is literally just her recounting her teenage years. It’s a delightful song, but I can’t imagine an Ne dom being as cheeky and straightforward as Rina is in that song. I think a lot of the ENFP votes are because she’s a completely new kind of pop star. She has exactly one semi-traditional love song in her discography when other pop stars have maybe three songs in their catalogue that aren’t about sex or love. She sings about the discrimination she receives as a queer Asian-British woman, or about how capitalism makes us consumerist monsters, or about addiction to the internet, or about her messy family life, and so on. She’s not our perfect stereotype of the ESFP pop star. But just because she doesn’t fit all of your preconceived notions of what an ESFP singer is doesn’t mean she’s not one. She still acts and writes like an ESFP, even if her art doesn’t fit the vapid stereotypes we have for them.
Biography
Rina Sawayama is a Japanese-born British singer, songwriter and model. Born in Niigata, Japan, she was raised from a young age in London, where she currently resides. Her debut mini-album, Rina was released in 2017, and her debut studio album Sawayama was released on 17 April 2020.
