Woods has recounted in multiple interviews that when he got braces as a teenager, they prevented him from playing the trumpet. This was a problem because he firmly envisioned himself becoming a jazz trumpeter who performed in basement clubs, and the braces disrupted this vision. So, he took pliers and ripped out the braces wire so he could continue to play. His parents had to keep taking him back to the orthodontist to get it replaced because he kept removing it. It wasn't until he discovered comedy (and was informed he would have significant dental malformities he didn't leave his braces alone), did he stop. He then fixated on becoming a comic, traveling hours by train nightly from Pennsylvania to New York to do improv until he graduated high school and could move to the city. He continues to stay focused on his craft and says it fits into his original vision of performing in urban nightclubs. Zachary Woods (born September 25, 1984) is an American actor and comedian. He is best known for his run as a series regular for three seasons on the NBC sitcom The Office, playing the role of Gabe Lewis, and his role as Jared Dunn on the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley. He also recurs on the HBO series Veep and on the USA Network sitcom Playing House, as well as the HBO show Avenue 5.
