Here is an interesting argument for ENFP I saw below: I know this is pretty controversial currently since everyone thinks she is a Se dom, but I really primarily see Ne when taking into account how she communicates. Yes, she is impulsive, but so are Ne doms, the function is extraverted so they rely on their external environment hence her impulsivity. If we take into account the kind of environment she grew up in as well, of course, she's going to have to react based on her senses that's how she has to survive. Now, I think where we can really see Ellie's Ne, would be her communication. Ne is a function characterized by coming up with multiple possibilities and narrowing them down, also contributing a sense of wittiness and randomness. Every time Ellie is conversing when she's comfortable all she does is come up with possibilities and she's brimming with curiosity. Asking Joel "why" is something she CONSISTENTLY does.“Hello sir id like your finest suite!” (made up scenario at a hotel) She also likes to try and guess and come up with crazy possibilities just for the fun of it despite there being no tangible reason for her to do so. “I bet it was monkeys” (in reference to the pandemic starting) Ne users tend to be stereotyped to be clumsy or overthinkers, but we should look into the textbook definition of what Ne is = External Intuition, how that format is coming up with possibilities and narrowing it down. That is what Ellie does when she is processing and communicating. I suppose her curiosity could be seen as Ti, but she tends to come up with those possibilities in guesses in more of a Ne route. “Was it x was it x how ab x?” I do see she is much more impulsive and the portrayal is different than the game, but she still has the essence of Ellie and communicates like her.
