There is no way that Fukubei could be a 4 core when his main concern was regarding his status, even when that meant denying his own identity, specially as a child. The difference between Johan and Fukubei is noticeable in this regard. Fukubei was obsessed with outdoing others (mainly Kenji, because he couldn't make Kenji notice him). What Fukubei always looked for was external approval and a way to get into the group. We can see this multiple times in his childhood memories, he always wanted to attract attention and made multiple attempts to get noticed. He had a special obsession with Kenji and for denying what he really wanted to prioritize what others wanted from him, being only “honest” with Sadakiyo (well, honest? mistreating and manipulating him). His search was never a search for his own identity, on the contrary; it was a search to hide it, even of himself. His approach was to surpass others without emphasizing his own failures; thinking of himself as someone above everyone else, but, paradoxically, trying to convince others of this, with tricks and fake stories. His entire thought speech and actions are also directed towards public opinion, silencing any expression of feelings that is not extreme or radical (not on purpose) after not receiving what he wants. His shocks, when he lost his cool —when he was a kid— were only after "failing".
