Gloria the Hippo MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Gloria the Hippo? Gloria the Hippo is an ESFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w3 - so/sx - 287 in Enneagram, SCUAN in Big 5, ESE in Socionics.

All these votes and comments, yet no good arguments for either type? Fine, I’ll do it myself. 𝔸𝕟 𝔸𝕣𝕘𝕦𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝔼𝕊𝔽𝕁 𝕊𝕆𝟚 For starters, I just want to get this out of the way: I may be biased here. Gloria is my favorite character in these movies, I unironically love her so much. But anyway, it seems that the consensus leans on ESFJ, yet many people in the comments are saying ESFP, pointing out that they see no Si in her. Since I saw no valid or reasonable arguments from either side, I considered both perspectives. And after careful thought for DAYS, I (unfortunately?) have decided that the former fits Gloria more, and you’ll see why I think so. This is mainly focusing on her MBTI, but I also touch on her Enneagram a bit, particularly her instinctual subtype. I also type her in these other systems, which I will gladly explain if y’all want me to. So without further ado…let’s move it move it. 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚'𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 In essence, Gloria is known for her confident, caring, and no-nonsense demeanor. She often serves as the voice of reason among her friends, acting like an older sister who steps in when they start to lose control. She has a sassy attitude and a willingness to speak her mind. Throughout the films, she remains loyal and level-headed, keeping the group together and ensuring everyone’s well-being. But now, we’ll take a look at her cognitive functions, and how they directly influence this personality of hers. 𝗙𝗲: Gloria is strongly people-oriented (or, animal-oriented? lol) and concerned with maintaining friendships and group cohesion. She often takes on a caretaker/mediator role: for example, when Marty expresses discontent with zoo life in the first film, Gloria urges Alex to talk to him and reconcile their friendship. She physically and emotionally intervenes in conflicts: “𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘺’𝘢𝘭𝘭!” (This might be where people confuse this for Se. However, it’s important to note that she’s physical to maintain group harmony, NOT JUST FOR THE SAKE OF BEING PHYSICAL.) This quote shows her assertive empathy: she won’t hesitate to step in to keep the peace and ensure everyone gets along. Gloria also gives encouraging pep talks to lift others’ spirits, demonstrating classic Fe behavior. For instance, stranded on Madagascar, she rallies her friends: “𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘯, 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴…𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩, 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘺, 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘦𝘭𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴!” Her upbeat encouragement boosts group morale, a hallmark of Fe doms. She clearly prioritizes her loved ones’ feelings and loyalty, even refusing to abandon Alex when his predatory instincts surfaced, while simultaneously protecting Marty for the sake of group harmony. These behaviors align with a Fe dom who values interpersonal harmony and takes decisive action to care for others’ emotional needs. 𝗦𝗶: This function is what a lot of ESFP voters are asking to explain in her. And explain I will. Gloria is practical, down-to-earth, and comfort-loving. She appreciates familiarity and the comforts of home. Early on, she tries to talk Marty out of chasing a wild adventure, reminding him that life in the wild is dangerous while “life in the zoo [is] adequate.” This cautious attitude shows her preference for the known and secure. She loves her routines; case in point, in Merry Madagascar, she is excited about returning to the hippo pool with “that sweet smell of chlorine,” a sensory detail she fondly remembers. Gloria is also attuned to physical needs: she makes sure the group finds help when stranded (“We’re just going to find the people, get checked in and have this mess straightened out”), indicating a pragmatic, step-by-step approach to solving problems. Her Si also contributes to her nurturing, home-like presence; when Alex scares Mort, she comforts him like a mother, cooing “Come on, Mama’ll hold you,” creating a sense of safety. All of this reflects Si’s emphasis on comfort, familiarity, and practical care for bodily needs and traditions.
