What personality type is Mako? Mako is an ISTP personality type in MBTI, 6w5 - so/sp - 613 in Enneagram, RCOEN in Big 5, LSI in Socionics.
As an ISTJ myself, I see him more as an ISTP. The 6w5 may make him look more like the former than a typical ISTP. Not saying ISTJs can’t cheat, but the particular way he screws up his relationships in Book 2 doesn’t strike me as reflective of ISTJ processing. We don’t like ambiguity and white lies. Korra asks him straight up if something happened before she lost her memory. He lies and says nothing happened and when Asami calls him on it, he says he essentially doesn’t want Korra “distracted” during the crisis they have to deal with. That’s Fe at work; an ISTJ would have bluntly told her the truth as soon as she asked, particularly because he’d already explicitly broken up with her. Te overrides Fi in us so our personal feelings come secondary to accomplishment, and the natural tendency would be to treat others as though they’re the same. I live in a family full of Fe-users and despite a quarter-century of learning to be careful in speech I’m still accused of being “harsh” and “blunt” from time to time. There are various other instances of him relying on Ni gut-hunches when tracking Varrick & the like, giving his scarf to Grandma whereas an Si-dom Fi-tert would have a super attachment to it due to time investment alone.

Mako is a firebender from a multicultural family who grew up on the streets of Republic City as an orphan with his younger brother, Bolin.
