Personality

What personality type is Mark "Rent Boy" Renton? Mark "Rent Boy" Renton is an INTP personality type in MBTI, 9w8 - sp/so - 964 in Enneagram, RLUEI in Big 5, SLI in Socionics.

I'm gonna get a bit too into this. This was my favorite movie in high school (and it's still one of them) and after rewatching it knowing about MBTI I know exactly why. Renton represents the lowest point for an INTP, and that to me makes him way more realistic than a lot of classic fictional INTPs. The whole movie comes from a Ti-Ne point of view. He also represents both the negative and the positive of tertiary Si and inferior Fe. He doesn't care about the social views regarding drugs because in the end everyone is a drug addict, by this logic he doesn't really care about the negative effects it has on his body, but he also feels the Si pull to leave that behind, lead a normal life and settle, and the Fe pull to stablish himself in society and fit in. He needs constant stimulation, which is why he keeps getting back on heroin. It's not for fun, but because living a life without it feels dull to him and makes him realize just how shitty everything else is. It's a way to numb the brain. Inferior Fe is also his enemy, because surrounding himself with his so called friends is why he keeps doing it. And he tries to get away. And they find their way back because he can't turn them down. The decision to break free from your friendships no matter how toxic they might be is not easy for low Fe users, and you can see it in his doubt towards the end.

Biography

The Villain Protagonist of the story. Mark is the voice of (relative) sanity among his friends, many of whom he actually hates. At the beginning, he's in the middle of his addiction to heroin. He is capable of fitting in well enough to common society, is relatively good-looking and of above-average intelligence, but is often socially awkward, and uses heroin as a means to withdraw into his own world. A self-loathing Deadpan Snarker extraordinaire who narrates everything from supporting his drug addiction to interacting with "the normal world" in a cynical way.
