Personality

What personality type is Fox Mulder? Fox Mulder is an INFP personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - sp/sx - 514 in Enneagram, RCUEI in Big 5, ILI in Socionics.

From the Wikipedia page for Mulder: "Walter Skinner and other FBI officials have become concerned by his unprofessional behavior. This only proves true as Mulder makes a habit of letting his personal feelings cloud his judgment; his emotional attachment to UFO cases becomes more severe throughout the series..." Fox Mulder's research and interest in aliens always had an emotional background to them (sister was abducted, presumably by aliens), and as a result, Mulder feels strongly and deeply about his pursuits in proving the existence of extraterrestrial life. This reaches such a point where, as stated in his page, he lets his emotions cloud his judgement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-4kNa90Sw8 Mulder crying while watching Carl Sagan discuss extraterrestrial life, after having his beliefs being challenged. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=985Jq_1mrtc Mulder talking about watching his sister get abducted and being unable to save her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVDTfn9DUBo Mulder giving a speech to his higher-ups for attempting to hide an abduction. He very heavily leads with Fi, Mulder's beliefs are strong, unyielding, and he dislikes any unbacked attempt to disprove his findings. This is all from the root of personal experience; his sister's disappearance and Mulder wanting to know what happened. The way Mulder picks up on emerging patterns and trying to find explanations makes him undoubtedly have high intuition. His openness to possibilities (even stating how much he wants to be open to possibilities) seems like Ne. While being an INFP, he is most likely a 5. In the second video, Mulder is particularly shaken by the fact that he could not save his sister. He could not move. He could only watch. Helpless. What is one of the 5's biggest fears? Incompetence. And what do they commonly do as a result of this threat? Research. Explore. Pursue a field that makes them feel like they have control. Like the pursuit of extraterrestrial life. One of my favorite examples of an INFP 5. Mulder may appear monotone, sarcastic and "spooky," but he has so much passion for his work and he will not waver on it. Even his famous quote "I want to believe" is so INFP 5w4; research motivated by values.

Biography

FBI Special Agent Fox William Mulder is a fictional character in the The X-Files. Mulder's peers consider his (often correct) theories on extra-terrestrial activity as spooky and far-fetched. With his FBI partner Dana Scully, he works in the X-Files office, which is concerned with cases with particularly mysterious or possibly paranormal circumstances that were left unsolved and shelved by the FBI.
